Edison and Ford Winter Estates
In the 1880s, prolific inventor Thomas Edison built a home along the Caloosahatchee River that served as his winter retreat and work place until his death in 1931. A botanical garden is home to more than 1,000 plants from all over the world. The museum houses memorabilia, including a collection of more than 200 Edison photographs. Close friend and fellow inventor Henry Ford purchased a home next door to Edison. Inventor of the Model A and Model T, Ford was one of the country’s first billionaires. Visit “Holiday House,” a December tradition, featuring seasonal decorations.
