Sailors win in extra innings

Sarasota High was pushed to extra innings before beating Fort Myers Bishop Verot, 5-4, Saturday in a baseball game.
Brandon West came in in relief in the sixth inning and allowed one hit over three innings to get the win.
The Sailors' Tyler Doughty hit the game's only home run and teammate Jimmy Koch got the game's only other extra base hit --a double.

Pirates get new coach

A change in his wife's job forced Don and Leah Purvis to move to the Memphis area more than six years ago.
That meant they would not be attending church services with Bob Bowling. Still, Don Purvis knew they would be reunited with Bowling at some point. He just did not think it would be this soon.
Bowling, the director of athletics at Braden River High, hired Purvis to be his football coach. READ MORE

Koch, Sarasota edge Naples, 6-5

The Sarasota High baseball team remained unbeaten on the season after a 6-5 win Friday over host Naples High, the defending Class 4A state champs.
Senior first baseman Jimmy Koch smashed a three-run home run in the Sailors' five-run fifth inning to spark Sarasota. Senior left fielder Dan Bodziak was 3-for-4 at the plate.
