90° SUNNY, Herald-Tribune takes national business prizes

The Herald-Tribune took home three national awards from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers' Best in Journalism Contest.
Staff writers Michael Braga, Chris Davis and Matthew Doig won first place in the projects category for their July series on real estate flipping fraud, which found as many as $10 billion in suspicious transactions in Florida during the real estate boom.
Staff writers John Hielscher, Michael Pollick and Anthony Cormier won first place in breaking news for their coverage of the Arthur G. Nadel Ponzi scheme, which involved $400 million and nearly 400 investors in the biggest investment scam in Southwest Florida history.
Staff writer Aaron Kessler won first place in enterprise for his coverage of contaminated Chinese drywall, which helped prompt Congressional action and investigations into the issue.
All of the awards were in the category for newspapers with a circulation under 125,000.
The Herald-Tribune's winning entries are eligible now to win SABEW's Best of the Best awards, which will be announced at the group's convention later this month.
